Christmas Week in Mazatlan 2019

Huge groups came into Mazatlan for Christmas Week, with most of them arriving on Saturday or Sunday and then heading back home on Christmas Day. The children were all so excited on the beach with the huge waves. Mexicans seem to come in huge families, with great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, children, aunts and uncles all moving in huge groups, partying and laughing, and swimming in the family friendly pools. The adults only pools were pretty empty, with just a few old white couples around them.

The workers at El Cid are constantly busy. It seems the floors and steps are scrubbed 2 or 3 times a day, resulting in my constantly having to say, “Lo siento” as I walk through a freshly scrubbed patch. This week all of the palm trees around our pool were trimmed, with workers climbing up super high with machetes to hack down the huge palm leaves and knock down the coconuts. Did not always look very safe to me!

Santa did find his way to Mazatlan, while I found an entire herd of Mexican reindeer by the golf course. The beaches were packed on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with everyone enjoying the sun and water.

Terry and I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day eating delicious food, walking on the beaches, and listening to rock music. Our favorite part was getting to FaceTime with both Cody’s and Corey’s families and seeing them open their presents. Technology is wonderful!!

The day after Christmas is a huge bargain shopping day in Mexico as well. We took the bus down to the market, where discount signs were everywhere. We even checked out the local Woolworth’s store!

Finished up our shopping day with a walk to the Malécon and then rode bicycles along it. Next time we need to check the wind direction as riding straight into a 35 mph wind was really a workout!!

Hope everyone enjoyed the week as well. Will be back next week to share Mexican New Year week!
